Stop Overcomplicating the Simple Things and Sacrificing your Progress
My case for sitting your ass down and doing the work.
“It’s simple.”
People hate hearing that. They often answer with “No, it’s not! You have no idea how hard it is!”
Simple and hard aren’t mutually exclusive, inclusive, synonyms, or opposites. Simple things can be arduous or quick and easy. Complex things can be either difficult or easy, as well.
If something is simple, it means that it doesn’t entail a complex process to get from point A to point B. There are no curveballs in the process itself. It’s just a few steps, they are clearly stated and obvious, so much so that you could recite them in your sleep.
The curveballs in simple processes are thrown in from another direction — ourselves.
Many of the things I want to achieve have a simple straightforward path from point A to point B and so on. Instead of focusing on that, I get stuck on my own personal hang-ups like insecurities and doubts, mental resistance, overthinking, laziness, the need to get there faster and looking for shortcuts instead of getting down to business. All of that makes me think I’m trying to do something really hard when, in fact, I’m not even doing anything. I’m just wasting my time and…
